'Avatar: The Way of Water' Enters Top 10 Highest Grossing Films
Avatar: The Way of Water has broken box office records by remaining the highest-grossing film for seven weeks in a row, a record that hasn’t been broken since the first Avatar movie came out in 2009.
The sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 hit film grossed $620.6 million domestically, making it the 11th highest-grossing film of all time in the United States. He will soon surpass the 2012 The Avengers and be on the verge of entering the top 10.
In addition to its domestic success, The Way of Water is also the fourth highest-grossing film in the world, behind James Cameron’s Avatar, Avengers: Endgame and Titanic. This year’s box office is up 53% from last year, largely due to the success of the Avatar franchise.
The third Avatar movie is not expected to arrive until December 2024, so fans of the franchise will have to wait a little longer for the following entry.
But The Way of Water’s success proved that public love for the world of Pandora and Na’vi will continue to be the engine of box office success.
